Kimberley Diamonds, which owns the Lerala mine in Botswana, received a loan of 3 million Australian dollars from the Chinese Zhejiang Huitong Auction.
The statement of the diamond mining company states that the funds will be used to repair and re-commission the mine, as well as to finance the company's current operating expenses.
The Chinese company has already provided Kimberley with a total amount of 13 million Australian dollars over the existing credit line, the statement said.
The extraction of diamonds at the Lerala mine is expected to begin in February next year.
Once the mine is put into production capacity, it will process 1.4 million tonnes of ore per year and produce an average of 357,000 carats of diamonds a year.
The life of the mine is seven years.
Kimberley, who was recently suspended from operations in Australia, reported that the repair and re-commissioning of the Lerala mine is proceeding at a good pace.
The company was informed of the completion of the geotechnical assessment of the mines for early development.
Also, the initial recommendations on the angles of inclination of the quarry walls and the configuration of the height of the ledge were made.
These data, according to the company, will be used in the updated layout and optimization plan for the mine.
