Gem Diamonds announced mine Ghaghu room (Ghaghoo) in Botswana on care and maintenance. This decision shall enter into force immediately on the back of low diamond prices.
The development of the mine, the company said, has progressed at a good pace, and soon she had to reach full capacity of industrial production. However, the fall in prices for diamonds Ghaghu to $ 210 per carat at the beginning of 2015 to $ 142 per carat in the framework of the December auction drew attention to the weak state of the diamond market for this category of raw materials, the statement said Gem Diamonds.
"The company is focused on making a profit in the proceedings, and therefore we have decided to place the asset on care and maintenance, we also will continue to monitor market conditions as long as the start of production at full capacity will not make economic sense." - said the diamond company.
"It is expected that after the settlement of all the agreements the costs of care and maintenance of the mine will be $ 3 million per year", - concluded in Gem Diamonds.

The Natural Colored Diamond Association (NCDIA) has announced plans to hold a series of conferences in Australia, London, Antwerp, Israel and Hong Kong to increase consumer awareness of the categories of non-ferrous diamonds, the organization said on Oct. 8.
Earlier this month, the first of such conferences were organized. Two events - October 2 in New York and October 8 in Mumbai - were devoted to the rarity and cost of natural pink diamonds. The series of conferences will continue in November at a meeting in Ramat Gan, Israel. NCDIA will inform you about the date of it.
Among other topics that will be discussed is the issue of comparing natural and synthetic stones, and the sale of colored diamonds of various colors.
The NCDIA noted, That high attendance at the first conferences was proof of the increasing popularity of colored natural diamonds in the industry. "Meanwhile, there is a lack of awareness of such stones throughout the supply chain," NCDIA added.
NCDIA's mission is to train and promote global awareness and the desire for natural colored diamonds. NCDIA, established in 2003, is a non-profit, membership-based organization that includes some of the world's most well-known diamond manufacturers, diamond and diamond jewelry manufacturers, designers and retailers.
