Armed security guards working for a private company in the diamond region of Lunda Norte in Angola, tortured illegal diamond miners. The incident was captured on video.
Independent news portal Maka Angola, based journalist, human rights defender Rafael Marquez (Rafael Marques), published a 7-minute video on the site the YouTube . Portal calls the actions of security guards "egregious" and "sadistic".
Illegal Diamond miners continue to be a challenge for representatives of the Angolan authorities despite efforts to curb illegal diamond mining.
Marquez has dedicated himself to the protection of human rights in Angola, according to the organization of Global Voice.
Last year, he was sentenced to a 6-month suspended jail sentence for defamation of the Angolan army generals. In his book entitled "Blood Diamonds: Torture and Corruption in Angola" , he said about violation of human rights.
"The year is 2016 and the illegal miners are still being tortured," - said Marquez in an interview to Deutsche Welle.
Most of the torture was carried out by former members of the military actions that are now working in the private security firms, but their actions are rarely made public.
Journalist accused authorities that they do not show enough initiative to prevent such practices.
