Chair of the Kimberley Process (KP) Ahmed Bin Sulayem (Ahmed Bin Sulayem) met with representatives of the Government of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the major representatives of the industry of the country to discuss a range of initiatives and programs to further strengthen the country's position as a major diamond producer.
DRC is the third highest in the world in terms of diamond production, providing about 13% of world supply, including diamonds for industrial use.
Bin Sulayem also discussed the situation in the DRC MP.
"It is important not only to understand the position and policy of the government in the production and export of diamonds in accordance with the mandate of MP, but also to ensure production operations in terms of high-level representatives of the authorities in the event that the political landscape will change after the upcoming elections in November," - said Bin Sulayem .
"After meeting with senior government officials and ministers of the DRC, I realized that compliance with the principles KP is important for the economic development of the country appears to the dedication and determination of the DRC authorities will be sufficient to ensure compliance with the principles and mandates of the CP in the future." - He concluded bin Sulayem.
DRC has been re-admitted to the KP in 2007. In 2010, this country has become a vice-chairman, and in 2011 - the chairman of the KP.
Export of diamonds from the DRC resumed under strict supervision of international experts. The state owns 80 per cent stake in the company which holds the license for extraction, enrichment and export of diamonds.

The current activities of Endiama and its partners, for example, Catoca, in geological exploration of diamond deposits in Angola, have significantly improved the standard of living of local residents, said Angola's Minister of Geology and Mining Francisco Francisco Queiroz.
Keirosh, quoted by Angop, said the Catoca exploration project in the north-eastern province of Lunda-Sul created 3000 direct and 7000 indirect jobs.
In addition to creating jobs, according to the minister, Catoca helped the government in the construction of housing and the development of agricultural projects for local residents.
He said that similar events were held in other regions where diamond exploration projects were carried out.
Keirosh said, That the new legislation of Angola in the field of extraction of minerals allows to direct a part of incomes of extraction on development of local communities.
Meanwhile, Keirosh added that the project to extract the iron ore of Cassinga in the south of the province of Willa will soon be re-launched.
He said that the project, which is currently at the exploration stage, created 1,000 jobs in the province.
